As the Visitors Bureau looks to find creative ways to better engage with local students and the younger workforce population in Dare County about balancing the positive and negative impacts of tourism in the area, they took a positive step forward in doing so by hosting a series of in-person ‘Tourism Talks’ with more than 100 students from First Flight High School, Manteo High School, Cape Hatteras Secondary School and the Dare Early College from May 4-7, 2026.
These 30-to-60-minute sessions, held during National Travel and Tourism Week and led by Community Engagement Manager Jeff Schwartzenberg, provided an opportunity to share updates on various OBVB initiatives, discuss career opportunities in the industry and solicit feedback from students on topics related to the Outer Banks LRTMP.
