The barrier islands are home to over 22 campgrounds offering swimming pools, electricity, gift shops, RV parking, tent and cabins, hot showers and all the best Mother Nature has to give.
Sleeping under the stars can be very satisfying. The dark nights far away from city lights let the splendor of the Milky Way shine bright. Bonfires are allowed in certain areas of the beach with a proper permit. Most of the campgrounds are conveniently located near local restaurants with delicious seafood and other fare, accessible by walking or bicycle.
You can find a campground on the Outer Banks that suits you, no matter how you like to "rough it." There are primitive cabins or tent sites, or full R/V and motorcoach hookups and combinations thereof from Kitty Hawk to Hatteras.
