Outer Banks Distilling is the first legal distillery on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, making their mark by distilling small batch rum from the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Located in historic downtown Manteo, they offer Kill Devil Rum tastings and tours on site, where you can purchase your own bottle of our award winning rum (limit 5 bottles per customer, per year, NC Law).

Noted North Carolina historian, filmmaker and author Kevin Duffus has penned a number of popular books including Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks, The Last Days of Blackbeard the Pirate, The Lost Light and War Zone: World War Two off the North Carolina Coast. He will be at Downtown Books during April 5 First Friday festivities signing books, meeting friends and greeting fans. Outer Banks Distillery will also be on hand with their famous rum tasting table!
On Saturday April 6, 1:30pm at the Dare County Arts Council, Kevin will present his talk on the 1918 Mirlo rescue off Hatteras. The Mirlo was a British Tanker loaded with 300,000 gallons of aviation fuel which was torpedoed five miles east of the Chicamacomico Coast Guard Station. Using previously unpublished eyewitness testimony, Duffus brings to life the desperate struggle of 51 sailors trying to escape their burning ship and the ordeal endured by six courageous Coast Guardsmen- the 'Mighty Midgetts of Chicamacomico' who risked life and limb to rescue the imperiled strangers. Listeners will be swept into a story that made Coast Guard history and established the Outer Banks as the home to some of the bravest men on the coast.
