The Outer Banks of North Carolina

Welcome to your dream road trip... The Outer Banks is a chain of islands, each with their own personality and tiny villages full of local culture and color. One two lane coastal road, the famous NC12 highway connects them all over bridges and ferries and runs for over 100 miles out here in the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Carolina mainland out of sight over the horizon. In fact, the beaches of the Outer Banks are like nowhere else, a national treasure preserved for recreation and nature. You may have friends who vacation here already, we have the largest selection of vacation rental homes in the South, or perhaps you've seen the OBX bumper stickers over the years, but never quite made the trip yourself.

Welcome to the home of Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Hatteras and a dozen other beach communities that have been written into the pages of history from the Lost Colony of Roanoke to the buccaneers of Blackbeard's day and the first flight in history that made Orville and Wilbur celebrities. Gas up and get ready to have a legendary road trip through Cape Hatteras National Seashore and several other national parks and wild spaces and places. Make sure you plan a few pit stops around our fan favorite seafood shacks and beach dives. Here's to sunny days and open road. Come on in!

While special things have happened here, the area is just as remarkable for how it encourages people to embrace new experiences. The OBX has a way of turning “never tried that before” into “can’t wait to do it again”. Whether that means learning to kiteboard, hang glide or surf, or just trying an oyster, or catching an ocean sunrise, we’ve got you covered. Just remember, it's close enough to drive to and far enough to get away from it all.
