Soaring 100 unpowered flight festival! October 21-24, 2011
Duration: 3:56
The First Flight of a powered, controlled aircraft occurred on December 17, 1903...12 seconds that changed the world. But many people don't realize that Orville Wright returned to the OBX for the last time in 1911, to work out some kinks in engineering design, and to take some much needed R&R. Orville flew a glider off Big Kill Devil Hill and established a soaring record that would stand for nearly a decade. We'll celebrate with fun stuff for families, programming and displays, aircraft and more. Ragtime Gala. Three independent teams are working to recreate replicas of this famous glider to fly during the event from Jockey's Ridge. Event is October 21-24, 2011 www.soaring100.com
