Flight From Past To Present

It's time to take off.
It all started here – man's infatuation with flight. All that was needed was an amazing gift for ingenuity and an equally strong headwind. The rest as they say, is history. This itinerary takes you from Jockey's Ridge State Park to Wright Brothers National Memorial.

8:00am Breakfast at your hotel or visit one of our local family restaurants and savor a good ole southern breakfast.

9:30am Jockey’s Ridge State Park (1 hour). Witness flight as it is still practiced today on the Outer Banks. You will get to see the largest living sand dune on the East Coast and enjoy a hang gliding demonstration from the largest hang gliding school in America, Kitty Hawk Kites.

11:00am Wright Brothers National Memorial (1 hour, 15 minutes) See where on a cold day in December, 1903 Wilbur and Orville Wright changed the world forever as their powered airplane, the “Wright Flyer”, skimmed over the sands of the Outer Banks for 12 seconds before returning to the ground.

12:30pm For lunch, stop in the quaint town of Duck and enjoy lunch on the waterfront.

2:00pm Currituck Beach Lighthouse (30 minutes) Visit the only lighthouse in North Carolina that is still housed in its original structure. Built in 1874 this lighthouse stands 158 feet tall.

2:30pm The Whalehead Club (1 hour) Located across from the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, take a tour of the restored hunt club. The club was built in the 1920’s for wealthy industrialist Edward C. Knight’s wife, so she had a place for hunting game and waterfowl.

4:00pm Back to Hotel for a break before dinner

5:45pm Dinner, be sure to choose from one of our locally owned restaurants, which feature North Carolina Seafood.
