Dynamic Variation:

Outer Banks Tours

It's time to take off.

It all started here – man's infatuation with flight. All that was needed was an amazing gift for ingenuity and an equally strong headwind. The rest as they say, is history. This itinerary takes you from the sightseeing of Jockey's Ridge State Park to Wright Brothers National Memorial.

Flight to past

8:00am Breakfast at your hotel or visit one of our local family restaurants and savor a good ole southern breakfast.

9:30am Jockey’s Ridge State Park (1 hour). Witness flight as it is still practiced today on the Outer Banks. You will get to see the largest living sand dune on the East Coast and enjoy a hang gliding demonstration from the largest hang gliding school in America, Kitty Hawk Kites.

11:00am Wright Brothers National Memorial (1 hour, 15 minutes) See where on a cold day in December, 1903 Wilbur and Orville Wright changed the world forever as their powered airplane, the “Wright Flyer”, skimmed over the sands of the Outer Banks for 12 seconds before returning to the ground.

12:30pm For lunch stop in at the Black Pelican Restaurant, originally Lifesaving Station #6 where the Wright Brothers sent their first telegraph announcing their first flight in 1903.

2:00pm While your lunch settles, head over to Moore Shore Road in Kitty Hawk to view the marker that indicates "On this site, the Wright Brothers flew their first glider" where the Tate property once stood in the 1900s. You can see it on the right-hand side when heading south.

2:45pm The Manteo airport (30 minute drive) offers the incomparable grand scheme of nature at work, the OBX by air. There are a few air tour services available by plane or helicopter. If you really want to go back to the basics, then there’s no better place to see mankind’s inspiration for flight; viewing the migratory path of 100s of different types of birds instead.

4:00pm Back to Hotel for a break before dinner

5:45pm Dinner, be sure to choose from one of our locally owned restaurants, which feature North Carolina Seafood.
