 Hatteras Welcome Center Operated by The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the center provides information on attractions, events and directions. Welcome center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March to December. The center, built in 1901, housed in the first U.S. Weather Bureau Station. The station played a key role in the nation's developing meteorological network, and endured some of the worst storms of the 20th century until decommissioned in 1946.
