Sound and Headboat Fishing
Another great way to fish the Outer Banks is by small boat in the sounds. From your own boat, or one rented in the area or charter, anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish including trout, spot, croaker, flounder, sheepshead and cobia, and at night, even red drum. Hire a guide and boat or set out on your own from one of the public boat ramps. Another excellent choice and great family entertainment is headboat fishing. Headboats, which carry 40-50 people, run half-day trips and stay in the sound and inlet waters. Depending on the season, the catch is usually spot, sea trout, flounder, croaker and sea bass. The boats provide experienced and helpful crews, bait, equipment and tackle, restrooms and drink/snack bars.
